Wayne Rogers

Mr. Wayne John Rogers, age 82, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away on June 29, 2021 following an extended illness. Wayne was born on April 3, 1939 in Tate City, Georgia to the late Grover and Arka (Nichols) Rogers. Wayne loved to cook and would often make fried chicken for church homecoming. He was well known in his family for his “melt in your mouth” biscuits and homemade concord and fox grape jelly. He also enjoyed being outdoors where he could be found trout fishing, camping and gardening. Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Maggie Dover and brothers, Ellis, Willis, Willard and Charles Rogers. He is survived by daughter, Sharon Rogers Moore; son, Sherman Wayne Rogers; sisters, Wanda Rogers, Mae Owenby, Ruth Ledford, Jean Tucker and Reba Denton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home. Services will be on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Bradley Thomas officiating. Music provided by Matt Griffin. Interment will follow the service in the Lower Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery. Banister- Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
