Walter Raymond Elam Jr, age 84, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025. He was born in Hickory, Mississippi on November 28, 1940 to the late Walter Raymond Elam Sr. and Mattie Mozelle Trest Elam. Raymond was a member of Woods Grove Baptist Church.
As a kid, Raymond enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father. During high school and college, he was an all-star athlete. He spent his adult life running his own businesses. He wrote a book called “Amazing True Stories” where he recalled many memories from childhood that helped mold him into the man he was. Raymond was devoted to his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was well known for handing out "Jesus Stones" to everyone he met. Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He spent the last years of his life spoiling his five great-grandchildren and giving them “pocket money”.
Raymond is preceded in death by his above mentioned parents, his sister Catherine and his brother James. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Linda Campbell Elam, son Greg Elam , daughter Suzanne Elam Solle and her husband Mark Solle. Grandchildren, Daniel Solle and Rachael Solle Queen and her husband Chris Queen. Great- Grandchildren: Bradly, Arianna, Logan, Bryson, and Mazie. His brother Demar Elam and his wife Dixie. Along with numerous extended family, friends, and his Hickory Nut Cove Family. Raymond’s favorite bible verse was Isaiah 40:31.
