Susie R. Miles

Mrs. Susie Rowland Miles, age 92, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away on April 12, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Miles was born on July 4, 1921 in the Fodder Creek Community of Towns County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Rufus A. and Lula M. Rowland. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn E. Miles in 1979. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother Grady Corn and a sister Helen Rowland Cox.
Mrs. Miles was educated in the Towns County schools, graduating from Young Harris College in 1940. Glenn and Susie were married in 1941. During World War II, she worked for two years as a clerk in the Office of Price Administration while Glenn served two years of duty in the Southwest Pacific in the U.S. Army. Later, she worked in the classrooms of Towns County Schools for 35 years before retiring.  She was a member of the Towns County Retired Educators Association.
Mrs. Miles was an active member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church for many years. She was part of the Esther Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law Janet and B.H. Masters of Morrow, GA; son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Jeannie Miles of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren Marsha (Cline) McClure,  Mike (Kathy) Masters,  Mary Beth (Jonathan) Barrett, and Adam (Ashley) Miles; great-grandchildren Sarah (Terry) Brewer, Alex McClure, A.J, Makenna, and Gabriel Miles, Abby and Kate Barrett.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14th at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Wood and Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Music was provided by McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. The following men served as pallbearers: Terry Taylor, Jerry Nichols, Tommy Flanagan, Johnny Acree, Garland Rowland, Kenneth Rowland, Charles Nicholson, and Doug Nicholson. Interment followed in the Enotah Cemetery where many family members have been laid to rest. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
