Shirley O’Quinn April 4, 1937-May 29, 2026
Shirley Allen O’Quinn of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away on May 29, 2026 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, creativity, and connection.
God gave Shirley a good life, one rooted in faith, family, and meaningful relationships. She grew up in Statesboro, Georgia, and at the age of 19 moved to Savannah, where she would eventually meet her future husband, Harry Clyde O’Quinn Jr. Following their marriage, the couple moved to several different locations as his career with SW Woolworth advanced, before eventually settling in Cooper City, Florida, where they made their home for 22 years.
During her time in Cooper City, Shirley owned her own florist shop and took great pride in the beautiful floral designs she created. Her creativity and eye for detail brought joy to many, and she was also very active in the local Women’s Club as Vice President.
Later in life, Shirley and her husband returned to Savannah, Georgia, to care for her mother. While there, Shirley continued to follow her passion by opening another florist business and remained deeply involved in her church, where her faith guided her throughout her life.
In August 2024, Shirley moved to Hiawassee to be closer to her son, a decision that brought her great happiness. She quickly fell in love with Hiawassee Park and became a vibrant part of it. Known for her vivacious personality, Shirley had a remarkable gift for bringing people together—she truly never met a stranger. Her home became a gathering place where friends and neighbors would often come together to share stories, laughter, and companionship. She had a special way of drawing people out and truly enhanced the lives of everyone she encountered. She built countless friendships and created many cherished memories in her time there.
Shirley was active in the Lions Club and could often be found enjoying events at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, where her presence and energy were well known and appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clyde O’Quinn Jr., and her son, Michael Elliott O’Quinn. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mina Futch. Shirley is lovingly remembered by her son, Harry “Pat” O’Quinn, and daughter-in-law, Tina O’Quinn, of Blairsville, Georgia; her grandson, Patrick O’Quinn, of Portland, Oregon; and her sister, JuJuan Harper of Statesboro, Georgia. She also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Shirley will be remembered for her kindness, her joyful spirit, her creativity, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. She left this world knowing how loved she was, and her legacy of love and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A service will be held at Ignite Living at Hiawassee Park clubhouse in Blairsville, Ga. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hiawassee Park Hardship Fund, at 89 Hiawassee Park Dr. Hiawassee Ga. 30546, in Shirley’s memory.
