Raymond Temple Pent was born on March 15th, 1935, to William Stanford Pent and Ruth Ivolyn Parker Pent in Volusia County, Florida. Raised in Daytona Beach, Raymond learned a strong work ethic early while running a daily paper route, starting at ten years old. He had an appreciation of nature, especially the ocean. He graduated from Mainland High School in 1953 and continued his education at the University of Florida, where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1958. He married the love of his life, Linda Ellen Smith, on June 7th, 1957, in Daytona.

After college, Ray worked for U.S. Steel, both in Birmingham, AL, where his son, Perry, was born, and in Chattanooga, TN. Later, he was employed by Dupont in Martinsville, VA, where his daughter, Stacy, was born. After accepting a position with Phillips Fibers, Ray worked primarily in Greenville, SC, where his son, Patrick, was born. The family also lived in Guayama, Puerto Rico, and Bartlesville, Oklahoma during Ray's career with Phillips. He remained with the company through mergers with Conoco and Amoco until his retirement.

Ray was dedicated to the Presbyterian Church, serving in various capacities, including serving as elder at St. Giles. Ray and Linda were active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville. He served on the Greenville Transit Authority and the Shannon Forest HOA, as well as a volunteer in a local soup kitchen. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved his son-in-law and his daughters-in-law as his own. He also enjoyed playing bridge and going on outings with friends. He enjoyed many family vacations and memorable trips with Linda.

Ray Pent went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 5th, 2023. He is survived by his sister, Bobby Pent Peck, sister-in-law, Barbara Pent, wife, Linda; children and son- and daughters-in-law: Perry and Mary Pent, Stacy and Shep Calhoun, and Patrick and Rachel Pent; grandchildren and their spouses: Kate and Rodney Johnson, Dieter Backwinkel, Meg and Tyler Davis, Ian Calhoun, Noah and Ashley Calhoun, Alana Calhoun, Wesly Calhoun, Zion Calhoun, Gabriel Calhoun, Morgan Pent, and Dawson Pent; and great-grandchildren: Luke Johnson, Ellie Johnson, and Emelia Johnson.
