Pearl Brown

Pearl Ballad Brown, 83, born March 23, 1931 in Blairsville, GA., and raised in Young Harris, GA., passed away peacefully Sunday, August 17, 2014, with family by her side.  She was a resident of Brasstown Manor, Hiawassee, GA.  She was a member of Woods Grove Baptist Church.

Pearl traveled extensively over the United States with her husband while she raised her beloved daughters, eventually settling in Forrest City, Arkansas, where she resided for 43 years.  In 2009, she decided she wanted to live her last years of retirement back in the Blue Ridge Mountains of her youth and returned to the area she loved, Towns County, GA., where she had family residing.
Pearl’s hobbies included being an excellent seamstress and also the creative arts of knitting, crochet and quilting.  This garnered her awards at the County Fair over the years.  She also loved gardening and was passionate about having the best looking yard in her neighborhood!  And she was particularly fond of dancing!  She was a member of a regular “Dance Club” for many years in Forrest City, and could be found many a Friday night doing the “Arkansas Twist”, laughing and spending time with her many friends.
She worked for over 20 years for Sanyo Manufacturing Corporation, where she became a Senior Supervisor and Trainer for the company.  She received many accolades and awards for her years of excellent service.
She was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #12089 in Forrest City, AR, where she was awarded a Governor’s Award for Distinguished Merit and Service, and the VFW Post she represented was recognized as the Top Ladies Auxiliary in the State of Arkansas while under her direction.
Pearl was preceded in death by her father, Henry Ballard, Young Harris, GA, her mother, Bonnie Shuler Bridges, Young Harris, GA, her husband, U. G. (Bill) Brown, Blairsville, GA, and 3 of her daughters, Barbara Gay Brown, Amy Marie Brown and Teresa Brown Roup.  Surviving her are her daughters Tanya Brown Oxley (spouse William (Bill) Oxley), of Memphis, TN and Cindy Brown Imhoff (spouse Kenneth Imhoff), of Jacksonville, FL.  Also surviving:  Aunt, Patsy Brown, of Sylva, NC;  sister, Joann  Plott;  nephew, Roger Plott;  step sister, Minnie Bell Keys;  and step brother, Robert Bridges (spouse Betty Bridges), all of Young Harris, GA.  She also leaves 5 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren as well as many other friends and extended family.
A Memorial Service for a celebration of life will be held at Banister Funeral Home, 678 N Main St., Hiawassee, GA, 30546, tel # 706-896-2218 on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2;00 PM Eastern Time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests, for those desiring, donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org . Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
