Olivia "Gail" Centaur, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home on August 08, 2025, surrounded by the quiet comfort of her faith and the love of her family.
Gail was a resilient and deeply faithful woman, known for her strong will, generous heart, and independent spirit. A long-standing member of Macedonia Baptist Church, she found joy and purpose in serving others. She founded the Necessary Closet, a ministry that provided essential items to those in need—a reflection of her desire to give quietly but meaningfully.
She cherished reading her Bible and lived as a woman of faith. Though she expressed her love in her own way, she was deeply loyal and present when it mattered most. She was a mother who showed strength over sentiment, a grandmother who loved deeply, and a friend who could be counted on.
Gail is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Smith, her son-in-law Jeromee Smith, her beloved grandchildren Libbi Smith and Logan Smith, and her two sisters, Sandra Delgado and Glenda Moore. She was preceded in death by her mother Jewell Pauline Pittman, father James Oliver Barber, and first husband Edward “Red” Franklin Benbow, whom she loved dearly.
A graveside service honoring Gail's life will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 3:00PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate the strength, faith, and quiet love that defined her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Necessary Closet at Macedonia Baptist Church.
