Loganville

Mary Genell Gordon, lovingly known as Memaw and Nell, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on December 12, 1933, in Blairsville, Georgia, Genell was the daughter of Ila Mae Ash and Joe Ash and the 8th child of 9 siblings. She built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, faith, and service. She later settled in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and lasting memories.

Genell attended Piedmont College, where she earned her teaching degree and began her career as a schoolteacher. She taught until she married the love of her life and forever husband, Roger Hal Gordon, and devoted herself wholeheartedly to building a loving family and home.

She was known for her happy spirit, strong will, and generous heart. A true go-getter, Genell lived with grace, purpose, and a deep love for the people around her. She found joy in traveling, cooking, sewing, shopping, and most of all, raising and caring for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was always giving, always helping, and always making others feel cared for.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. It guided her strength, kindness, and the way she loved others so deeply.

Genell is survived by her sons, Hal James Gordon and Joe Michael Gordon; her daughter, Jody Marie Whitlock; daughters-in-law, Brenda Gordon and Judy Gordon; son-in-law, Ted Whitlock; her beloved grandchildren, Jessica Whitlock, Brandon Gordon, Nick Tate, Andrew Whitlock, Shawn Gordon, Ashton Whitlock, Ryan Gordon, and Timothy Gordon; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Harrison Whitlock, Rylee Whitlock, and Hutson Whitlock.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, faith, and family that will continue through generations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
