Mary Ann Phyllis Spellman

Mrs. Mary Ann Phyllis Spellman, age 85 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on July 06, 2012 in the comfort of her home with some of her children and grandchildren at her bedside. She was born to the late Richard James and Marie Alice (Langlois) Brotherton on August 23, 1926 in Detroit, MI. She married John Spellman on June 07, 1947. He preceded her to Heaven in 2002. Also waiting to greet her in Heaven are her parents, grandson, Daniel Currier and great-granddaughter, Jessica Stirsman. Phyllis was a devoted mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother. She and John raised seen children in Detroit, MI and enjoyed the blessings of fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Phyllis and John were active members of Mother of Our Savior, St Scholastica and St. Gemma parishes in Detroit. They retired to Holdiay, FL where they lived for twenty-three years. After John’s passing, Phyllis moved to Hiawassee, GA in 2005. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, NC. She is survived by daughters, Lynne Caulkett, of Springhill, FL; Susan Currier, of Oakland Township, MI; Beth Carsen, of Hale, MI; Joan Hardin, of Hiawassee, GA; Geri Goalen, of Holiday, FL; sons John Spellman, of Houghton Lake, MI; Joe Spellman, of Hiawassee, GA; brothers, Richard Brotherton, of Detroit, MI; Jim Brotherton, of Grand Rapids, MI; Michael Brotherton, of  Detroit, MI; sisters Patricia Boljesic, of Canton, MI; Judy Spratke, of Shelby Township, MI; Barbara Sosnowski, of Macomb, MI; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, an aunt, Judy Guideau, of Canton, MI; her pet cat, “Hope”. and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church in Canton, Michigan on July 20, at 10:30 AM. The church is located at 555 S. Lilley Road, Canton, MI 48188.
