It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Edward Kohler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mark, 78, a resident of Hiawassee, Georgia, and formerly of Florida, gained his eternal wings on January 1, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Memorial Hospital, following a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in the vibrant city of Tampa, Florida, Mark's early life established a foundation of dedication and service. He proudly graduated from Chamberlain High School before answering the call of duty, honorably serving our nation in the United States Air Force. His commitment to protecting others continued upon his return from military service, as Mark embarked on a distinguished and lengthy career with the police department in Florida, upholding justice and ensuring community safety for many years.

Beyond his professional life, Mark was a man of diverse passions and an infectious zest for life. He found immense joy in the intricacies of electronics, the challenge and camaraderie of a golf course, the timeless elegance of classic cars, and the thrill of travel. His love for cruising was legendary; he cherished not only the exotic destinations and breathtaking views but also the lively atmosphere of the ship's casino, where he could often be found trying his luck at the slot machines while at sea.

Mark's greatest joy, however, was his beloved family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Jean, who was his steadfast companion and partner in all of life's adventures. His legacy lives on through his loving children: son Scott (Esperanza); and daughters Jenni (Ronnie), and Charis. He was a cherished grandfather to Cody (Stacey-fiancé), Devin (Michaella-fiancé), Dalton, Nadacia (Victor-fiancé), Gabriel (Katelyn), and Jaymin (Iris-fiancé). The family circle further extends to nine adored great-grandchildren, who brought immense light and laughter into his later years. Mark will also be profoundly missed by a wide circle of friends and extended family whose lives he touched with his kindness and humor.

To honor Mark's remarkable life and the indelible mark he left on so many, a celebration of life gathering will be held at a future date. This special remembrance will include a dedicated tree-planting ceremony in his memory. Further details regarding this gathering will be shared with you soon.
