Macel Irene Roberts

Macel Irene Roberts, 83, of Sumerco, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Roberts Sr.; daughter, Brenda Garnes. She was a proud member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church in Sod, West Virginia. Macel is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Gretta Roberts of Sumerco, WV and Kevin and Stacy Roberts of Young Harris, GA; one son-in-law, Ted Garnes; three grandchildren, Mandy Garnes, Jay and Jake Roberts; great granddaughter, Tori Roberts; sister, Hazel Hughes; sister-in-law, Billie Means, nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends survive. Also considered to Macel as her own children are Paul and Debbie Hedrick, Jarrod and Jacque Chapman and their children. She was a caring and kind-hearted person who loved her husband, kids, family and everyone she met. Cooking good food for people and always having something on the table to eat put a smile on her face so if you came in her house, you would eventually end up at the kitchen table. She was a dedicated ‘Wheel Watcher’ and enjoyed her Neapolitan ice cream. She loved the Lord, reading her Bible and going to church. Quilting, growing flowers, being in the yard and gardening were favorites of hers as well. Kids that came to visit would always be offered a popsicle, sucker or M&Ms and a sweet hug as they went out the door. She will truly be missed but heaven is sweeter with her there. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 21 at 12:00 PM with the funeral following at 1:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia and Curry Funeral Home of Alum Creek, West Virginia are in charge of the arrangements.
