Lou Davis Brown died on February 26,2023 at her home in Young Harris, GA. She was born in 1930 in
Commerce, Georgia to Walton C. ( Hank) Davis and Julia Osborne Davis. Lou grew up in Albany, Georgia
with her mother and brothers. She graduated from Albany High School in 1947 and attended the
University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu. While at UGA, Lou met her husband, Jim
Brown of Savannah. After Jim graduated, they were married and lived in Florida and Ohio before
returning to Georgia to raise their family. Lou and Jim were married for 50 years until Jim’s death in
2001.
A devoted wife and mother, Lou was heavily involved in her children’s various activities in Decatur and
Roswell. She was an active member and leader with Jim at Roswell and Commerce Presbyterian
churches. She moved to Young Harris in 2012.
Lou was a past president of the Commerce Garden Club and a member of the Colonial Dames. Always
generous and sharing, she loved reading, gardening, decorating, and being with her family. She had
several lifelong friends who she cherished deeply.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim and her brother Jim Whiting of Albany.
Survivors include her brother Walton Davis (Mary Elizabeth) of Canton, sister-in-law Margaret Whiting
of Albany, daughter Tish Lashley (Joe) of Young Harris, son Grant Brown of Nicholson, granddaughter
Catharine Roberts (Charlie), two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend
Mary Hardee of Savannah.
A graveside service will be held at a future date at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
