Leonard Furr McConnell

Mr. Leonard F. McConnell, age 89 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 following a period of declining health. He was born to the late Leonard F. and Pauline (Johnson) McConnell, Sr. on January 24, 1922 in Gainesville, GA. He was an active member of the Lions Club of Towns County for many years serving two terms as President and also Director of Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds for a term. He is survived by his wife, Ruth McConnell, of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Cathy Duga, of Apopka, GA; son, Jim McConnell, of Young Harris, GA; four grandchildren, Chris Jones, Tori Jones, Shawn Ivey and Casey McConnell and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 03, 2011 at 2:00PM from the chapel  of Banister Funeral Home with Rev, Benny Pate and Rev. Don Pickerill, officiating. Pallbearers were: Casey McConnell, Tyson Jones, Chris Jones, Ray Davis and Brian Miller. Serving as Honorary pallbearers were members of the Towns Co. Lions Club. Music was provided by Ron Goesher.  Interment was in Osborn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations and contributions be made to  Lions Club of Towns County or  McConnell Baptist Church Building Fund. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
