It is with great sadness we announce the passing of JT Wilson (2/15/31 to 2/24/26).He was the son of Arvil and Clara Mae Wilson of Hiawassee, GA. He is survived by his loving wife Mickey Wilson, niece Lita Barnette, her husband Dan Barnette and their children Beau and Jeb. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much.
JT was born and raised in Hiawassee, GA . He graduated high school and worked toward a college degree when the duty called. JT proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was the secretary to the captain and known as the best Cribbage player on any ship.
JT’s experience in the Navy took him to California, Korea and several other places. He has been under the Golden Gate Bridge more than 30 times. After his time in the Navy ended, he returned to Piedmont College where he earned a teaching degree. He began teaching in Blue Ridge, GA in 1961. JT continued teaching until his retirement from Towns County Comprehensive School.
In 1962, JT and Mickey Wilson were married in Robertstown, GA. There is when a wonderful life began. JT and Mickey have been faithful companions for over 60 years. In 1963 they returned to JTs homeplace of Hiawassee, where they have remained. These 63 years have been filled with love, laughter, travel, and hard work, but at the core a deep commitment to one another.
JT has been a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 50 years where he served as a deacon and committee member. Not only active in the church he was also active in the community. He was a member of the Town’s County Lion’s club for many years. He at one time served as President and earned the prestigious award of Citizen of the Year.
JT’s life has been filled with family. Living in Towns County afforded him time to spend with his parents, his many cousins: the Mauldins, the Wilsons and the Walls, and his other kinfolk. He also spent time with Mickey’s family and especially enjoyed his time with her brothers as they traveled widely, even to Alaska to fish. The most precious time though was his time with Mickey. They traveled to all fifty states, Jimmy Carter’s inauguration and the Panama Canal. They were wonderful together. JT will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from Friday, February 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the funeral Saturday at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Baptist Church. In honor of JT Wilson, flowers may be sent to the church as well. Memorial donations can be given in honor of JT Wilson to the Macedonia Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
