John Samuel Ensley

November 18, 1940 — November 4, 2023

Blairsville

John Samuel (Sam) Ensley, 82, of Blairsville, Ga. passed peacefully from this earth on November 4, 2023. Sam was born on November 18, 1940 on Plott Town Road in Young Harris, Ga. to Franklin and Verdie (Duckworth) Ensley.
His livelihood was as a middle school educator and a real estate broker. He loved all kinds of music, especially bluegrass, which he passed on to his family and students. As much, if not more than music, he enjoyed studying and preserving the history of Towns and Union County, Georgia. As a member of the Union County Historical Society, he served in many capacities and worked for 21 years providing various musical entertainment acts at the old Union County Courthouse on Friday nights from May through October. He was an avid Studebaker lover and always enjoyed NASCAR racing and the Atlanta Braves.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings including brothers; Jim, Bob and Franklin, Jr. and sisters; Willabel (Fritz) Caylor, Mildred and Sara.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Page Ensley and his canine companion, Harley; his son, Samuel Rouse Ensley; daughter-in-law Dana Devereaux Ensley; his grandchildren, grandson Samuel and granddaughter Elyanna (Elle) — his greatest treasures. Others include: Sisters-in-law, Melanie Ensley of Blairsville, Sandra Page of Young Harris, brother and sister-in law, Allan and Tonya Page of Young Harris and a host nieces and nephews.
Sam requested there be no visitation nor funeral. He hoped to be remembered fondly sometimes by those who knew him. He was always eager to see and hear from his former students. A Celebration of Life will occur with details to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Union County Historical Society at PO Box 35 Blairsville, GA 30512 or Mountain Shelter Humane Society at 129 Bowling Gap Circle Blairsville GA 30512 or any charity of your choice will be appreciated.
