John William Aldrich

John William Aldrich, age 79 of Young Harris, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024. John was born to the late William and Elizabeth Wilcox Aldrich in Putnam, Connecticut on January 6, 1945. John served his country in the United States Army and then went on to graduate from the University of Colorado with a degree in engineering. Most of his career he spent designing septic systems all over the world. After retiring John enjoyed carving walking sticks for his friends and even carved and sent one to Phil Alexander, the father on the show Duck Dynasty who he loved watching. John was a history buff, loved telling stories and tales of his travels and his life, and handmade postcards that he mailed out to friends and acquaintances. John was often referred to as "Big John, The Gentle Giant". 

John is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Shannon St. John; and his brother, Ralph Perry. He is survived by his daughter, Megan Aldrich; brother, Paul Aldrich; sisters, Nancy Sheldon, Linda Rose, and Janice Perry; and grandchildren, Audra Aldrich Fine and Mathew Fine. 
John will be deeply missed by his family and the Union County Nursing Home staff. 

Services to be held at Shining Light Baptist Church, Blairsville on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 3:00PM
