Joan Susan Nolin, age 65, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022. Joan was born November 11, 1957 to the late Howard and Jacqueline Zabadal Goldman in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Joan grew up in Hyde Park, New York. She was a talented musician, starting with viola, then switching to french horn in middle school. She also enjoyed playing piano. She graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam with a degree in music education. Joan enjoyed her summers serving at a restaurant at Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondacks, and loved living near the lake in Hiawassee.
Joan moved to Orlando, Florida in her twenties and worked in hospitality at Disney World for a number of years. She then moved to Tampa and worked in a large arts and crafts store where she became adept at framing art.
Joan moved to Hiawassee approximately 20 years ago where she opened her store, Joan of Art, and specialized in custom framing. In July, 2004, she married James Marshall Nolin II in Hiawassee.
Joan’s mother, Jackie Goldman, moved to Hiawassee in 2004 to be closer to her daughter. Joan was a loving and supportive daughter to Jackie until her passing in 2015.
Joan stayed active with her music by playing french horn with the Young Harris College Community Band for many years. She was also talented in crafts and created beautiful and intricate cross-stitch and needlepoint works, many of which she gifted to her family, having put much love into her work. In addition to her store, Joan worked part-time at the Brasstown Valley Resort as a bartender for special events.
She is survived by her husband James, her brother Michael Goldman (Deidra), her brother David Goldman (Vicky), her brother Paul Goldman (Marci), six nieces and nephews, and six grand nieces and nephews. Joan will be remembered for her love of family, music, and needle art.
