Jimmy Johnson, age 79, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. He was born in Sandersville, Georgia to the late Mrs. Minnie Lee Johnson on December 4, 1946. Jimmy grew up in Dry Branch, Georgia and worked as a Radiator Mechanic in his young adult life before moving to Hiawassee and starting his career as a land surveyor. He retired in 2005 from Patterson and Dewar Engineering. After retirement he enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He was a man of strong faith and loved his family dearly. Although he never had children, he did have many nieces and nephews and even became a "great-great-great uncle", which most people do not accomplish and he was very proud of that. Jimmy will be deeply missed.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Lee Johnson; brother, Sammy Johnson and sister, Lucy S Kirby; niece, Nancy Ellen Janiski. He leaves behind a brother-in-law, Gordon Kirby Jr; nieces and nephews, Tina and Tony Denton, Tony and Laurie Kirby, Donna Delong, Denise and Jimmy Carman, Kathy Denton; and a host of great nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Graveside Service: Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 12:00 at Enotah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Banister-Cooper is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Johnson.
