Jean Frances Connell

September 6, 1933 — June 2, 2026

Hiawassee

Jean Frances Connell, age 92, the sixth of seven children, was born to Colonel John Fidelis Connell and Florence Fulton Connell, on September 6, 1933, in Fort Sheridan, Illinois, while her father was serving with the United States Army. Also living in Ohio and in Washington, D. C. during her childhood, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia during her teenage years. While living in Atlanta on East Paces Ferry Road, Jean attended Christ the King Catholic High School. In 1954, the family moved to the Druid Hills area of Atlanta into the new home their father had built. It was there that Jean, as well as her beloved sister, Betty, resided until March of 2020. Jean was passionate about gardening and made a beautiful surrounding for the home. Jean also was very gifted in baking, cooking, sewing, and with many other do-it-yourself projects before they were in vogue. After becoming an aunt to identical twin girls in 1963, Jean spent many Saturdays caring for her nieces. Some years later, she enjoyed times with a nephew and another niece. After the illness of her sister in March of 2020, Jean sold her beloved home and moved to Country Village Assisted Living in Cumming, GA with her beloved dog, Tim. After the loss of her beloved dog in March of 2025, Jean moved in June of 2025 to Brasstown Manor Assisted living in HIawassee, and made many new friends and was cared for by a truly exceptional staff. In April of 2026, she moved to Chatuge Regional Nursing home where she was lovingly cared for in her remaining days. She entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 2, 2026. She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Bernard, Jack, and Richard Connell, as well as by her sisters, Helen Connell, Eleanor Connell Wilson, and Betty Connell. She is survived by her sister-in-law Deloris Connell of Winter Springs, Florida as well as by nieces Sandra (Mike) Fancher of Peachtree Corners, Cynthia (Jeff) Czerwonka of Young Harris, Theresa Connell (Felix) of West Jefferson, NC, nephews Richard Gregory Connell (Megan) of Oviedo, FL. She is also survived by several great-nephews and nieces: Timothy Fancher of Peachtree Corners, Ruth Fancher of Peachtree Corners, GA, Selah Czerwonka of Young Harris, GA, Molly Connell of Oviedo, FL, and Leah Connell of Oviedo, FL.
