Jane Marie Kauffmann

Jane Marie Kauffmann, age 86 of Hiawasee, Georgia, passed on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at the Hayesville House. Jane was born on February 27, 1934, in Coffee County, Alabama, to the late Mr. and Mrs. George and Lois (Pate) Kilpatrick. 
She lived most of her young life in Luverne, Alabama. She had two elder brothers, the late James George (J.G.) Kilpatrick and John (Pop) Clyde Kilpatrick. She graduated from Luverne High School where she was recruited to be office staff at FBI Headquarters in Washington DC. There she met and married the late Serge Christopher (Chris) Kauffmann. She worked as an assistant in the History Department at the University of Alabama and as a bookkeeper for Dr. Charles Price in Winter Park, Florida, before joining the EPA in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served for 29 years.
She loved to cook and contributed recipes to numerous charity cookbooks. She enjoyed reading and the beauty of nature, flowers, birds, and sunlight shining through her prism collection. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Fred Nebiker of Hiawassee; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Gale Kauffmann of Villa Rica; grandchildren Ian Stedman, Todd Mancuso, Michael Lee Kauffmann; great grandchildren Ani Ura, Graham Stedman and Rhys Ura and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family has selected private services. Banister-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Kauffmann.
