Jim was born in Macon, GA on May 12, 1943 to the late Ophelia S. and Pliny G. Roberts. He leaves behind his wife Dixie of forty four (+) years.
He grew up and attended local schools in Macon, graduated from Willingham High School in 1962. Attended Middle Georgia College, graduated from University of Georgia in 1966. On graduation joined the US Army, finished OCS in 1967, served during the VietNam era and sent to Germany for two years. After the military returned to Macon and began a career in healthcare financial management and was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard. Along the way he got married a couple of times and leaves five children, Wade N. Roberts (Audrey), Jenene S.
Roberts, James R. Roberts, Ronald W. Bodamer (Sandra) and Kenneth J.
Bodamer (deceased). He is survived by his brother Ron R. Roberts (Susan) of Dawsonville, GA. He had seven grandchildren, Dillon Roberts, Brock Lehman (Zia), Emily L. Perry (Noah), Brandt Bodamer, Kyle Bodamer, Heather Bodamer, Jazmine Pruitt, Ryan Roberts and three Great grandchildren, Ana Pruitt, Zara Lehman and Braiden Heron. Jim will miss his friends from his high school years, his OCS classmates from his service years and his local friends. His healthcare career led him to Florida, South Carolina, Washington, DC and finally back to Atlanta, GA in 1981. He worked for several Healthcare Chains and retired from HCA-The Healthcare Company in 2002. Worked as a Healthcare consultant for several years and finally on the third time officially retired in 2006. In 1982 he met Dixie on one of his assignments and has enjoyed a wonderful life with her for over 44 years They lived in Alpharetta, GA for almost 25 years and moved to Hiawassee, GA full time in 2005. Jim was active in his church (Union Hill Methodist Church), a 5 year member of Firewise USA, President of the neighborhood HOA for 9 years and numerous local community functions.
Visitation: Monday, June 1, 2026 at 5:00-7:00PM at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home
Funeral: Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 12:00PM at Union Hill Methodist Church
Interment: Monday, June 8, 2026 at 2:00PM in the Georgia National Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Hill Methodist Church in Jim's memory.
