Mr. James Garrett Hughes, age 75 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 following a period of declining health. He was born to the late Cecil and Josephine (Ripley) Hughes on May 06, 1938 in Winterhaven, FL. He is survived by two special friends, Judy Goodwill and Mel Pasha; and many cousins also survive. Jim was very active with the University of FL in research for the citrus industry and was also a teacher at Pope Community College in drafting and instruction in FL. He took over his families citrus groves and was a citrus and architect for many years. He was a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers and was an old car and old boat enthusiast. He was a member of the Key Club, The Mens Club of Sharp, a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church of Young Harris, GA and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winterhaven, FL. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Sharp United Methodist Church with Rev. David Tinsley officiating. Music was provided by Pam Leslie.
