James E Holliman

James “Jim” Edward Holliman, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away in the early morning hours of January 26 th. , at Chatuge Regional Hospital.

He was born to Charles and Eudelle Holliman, in Valdosta, GA, on April 18 th , 1934.

Jim was a varsity letterman in football, basketball, and track at College Park High School. After graduating from The Citadel – The Military College of South Carolina, Jim served eleven years as a pilot in the United States Air Force with Strategic Air Command. He then embarked on a career as a commercial airline pilot that spanned over 29 years and took him all over the globe. Jim attained the rank of airline Captain as he flew for Eastern Airlines, Japan Air, and Saudia Airlines.

Jim retired to Hiawassee, where he enjoyed hiking with friends along the trails of the North Georgia Mountains, taking continuing learning classes at Young Harris College, and spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Krutulis Holliman, his son, Charles Holliman, and daughter, Virginia Holliman. He is also survived by his three stepsons, George, Gerald, and Thomas Dangler – and their spouses, Stephne, Laurie, and Sari. Jim leaves behind his eight beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial on what would have been Jim’s 92 nd birthday.
