Hugh Nicholson, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Hugh was born on November 6, 1940, in Hiawassee, Georgia, to the late Jay and Novalee (McClure) Nicholson. He was a man of faith and a lifelong member of the Baptist church. Hugh was devoted to the love of his life, his wife Janett, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith. In their younger years, Hugh and Janett enjoyed traveling and making memories, with adventures that took them to Paris, Hawaii, and Mexico. Hugh was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janett Nicholson; his parents, Jay and Novalee Nicholson; and his sister, Sue Johnson. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Tracy Nicholson of Jefferson, Georgia, and Brent and Stephanie Nicholson of Homer, Georgia; his cherished grandchildren, Cayla Nicholson Thomas and her husband Johnathan, Kelsey Nicholson, Emily Nicholson McDaniel and her husband Will, Ellie Nicholson, and Erin Nicholson; and his adored great-grandchildren, Annistyn Thomas, Jordan Brent “JB” Thomas, Romy Walker, and Baylor McDaniel. Hugh is also survived by his sister, Connie Marshall, and her husband Steve, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly. Hugh will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep love for his family, and the legacy he leaves behind.
