Harvard Carroll Miller

Harvard Carroll Miller, 82, of Young Harris, Georgia, died Thursday, February 4, 2021, at his residence. No services are planned at this time due to pandemic restrictions. 
Mr. Miller was born in Miller County, Georgia, on January 12, 1939 to the late William Harvard Miller and Clara Lee Mock Miller. 
Graduated from Miller County High School, Carroll Miller furthered his studies in the education field by attaining degrees from Berry College, Rome, Georgia; Troy University, Troy, Alabama; and Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. 
Mr. Miller began his career in the field of education at his high school alma mater in Colquitt, Georgia where he taught mathematics and sciences in the upper grades. Mr. Miller was awarded the distinction of being named Star Teacher by the systems Star Student multiple times during his tenure at Miller County High School. Mr. Miller impacted his students in the classroom. To help mold his students' well rounded education in preparation for their life experiences, Mr. Miller actively volunteered in support of students extracurricular pursuits -athletics, band, debate teams, and other academic competitions. 
Mr. Miller transferred his skills to the Decatur County public school system where in addition to some classroom time, he took on the role of assistant principal, and then principal of the high school before becoming Assistant School Superintendent and Curriculum Development Director for Decatur County schools at the Board of Education. 
Carroll Miller's leadership impacted southwest Georgia public schools during his thirty four year career.
Mr. Miller was faithful, lifelong, to his beloved Methodist Church - Colquitt United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge, and most recently Sharp Memorial Methodist in Young Harris. As Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, cook and cleanup for the Methodist Men's group, Mr. Miller served his church in any way he could. His faith was central to who he was. 
A native southwest Georgian, Mr. Miller retired, along with the love of his life, to the mountains of Towns County, near Young Harris, where they have happily resided for sixteen years. 
Survivors include his wife of forty seven years, Marie Dunning Miller; one brother, Doyle (Frances) Miller of Ocala, Florida; two sisters, Kay Miller (Don) Chandler, of Colquitt, Georgia and Pam (Anne Bruce) Miller, of Salem, South Carolina; and four nephews and one niece, to cherish his memory.
