Fundadora Cruz, age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 after an extended illness. Dora, as she liked to be called, was born in Anasco, Puerto Rico on June 5, 1943 to the late Demingo and Flores Roman. Dora was a dedicated mother to three children who she raised as a single mom, putting her children through peroquial school in Connecticut. She is a devote Catholic who loved the Lord. Her children describe her as strong, heaven-made, feisty, strong-willed, and beautiful inside and out. Dora worked for many years at Murphy Medical Center but during her leisure time, enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family. She worked at The Provincial House for the nuns in Putnam, CT for over 15 years.

Dora is preceded in death by her above mentioned parents; husband, Luis Cruz; and brothers, Santiago Roman and Pedrito Roman. She is survived by her daughter, Dora "Dee" Serra, and son-in-law, Douglas "Doug" Serra Sr; son, Victor Cruz; son Julio "Poppy" Cruz, and daughter-in-law, Chantal Cruz; brothers, Manuel Roman, and Jose Roman; sisters, Cayita Roman and Rosa Roman; grandchildren, Douglas Serra Jr, Ashley Bohannon, Brittany Serra (Hayes), Alexandria Casey and Jaden Miller; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like her to be remembered as a loving mom, grandmother, and great grandmother who gave so much and will be greatly missed. Mom is now with our Lord, the Saints, and the Angels. She is very much loved and missed.

Banister-Cooper is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Cruz.
