Floyd Royce Shook

Shook, Floyd Royce  went to his heavenly home on May 1st 2014.  Dearly beloved
during  his 90 years on this earth by his family and friends. He will be dearly
missed.  Born on Sept 5, 1923 to Stella (Eller) and Tom Shook in Hayesville, NC.
He was raised on a farm on Upper High tower in Hiawassee. He was one of 4 boys
and 4 sisters. After graduating from high school he attended Machinist School in
Clarkesville, Ga. After receiving his certificate he worked for the CCC's and
served in the Air Force at the end of WWII.
He moved to Ohio to work for Hercules Engines and married Faye Yonce of
Hayesville , NC. In 1965 he headed south again and worked for Cox Foundry in
Atlanta, Ga.  He built and owned Springdale Apts. in East Point, Ga. which he
and Faye managed for 42 years. He was s a member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist
Church where he was very active and taught a boys Sunday School class.  He
retired from Delta Airlines after 19 years of service as a machinist . His pass
benefits enabled he and his wife to travel to Hawaii, Russia, Israel, Spain,
Portugal, Australia, Germany, London, Switzerland and Ireland as well as to many
cities in the USA.  In 1978 he built a home in  Fayetteville, Ga where he
resided with his wife until he moved to Brass Town Manor Assisted living in 2011
back to his beloved North Georgia Mountains.
Floyd could fix or repair most anything, loved planting a big garden every
spring, never met a stranger or forgot a face, his memory remained extremely
sharp  his entire life and he always kept up with the latest news and
innovations. He dearly loved his family which included his wife of 65 years,
Faye Irene Yonce, his son Royce of Riverdale, GA his daughter Rita Furness of
Marietta, GA( and son in law- Terence Furness)  3 grandchildren - Thomas, Shuan
and Krista Robb . As well as 2 step grand children- Bart Furness (wife Mandi)
and Blair Furness Dames ( husband Mike). He had 2 great great granddaughters -
Nicole Shook and Sophia Shook and 2 step great grandsons Hudson Furness and
Mason Dames.
He is preceded in death by his brothers,Ellis Willard, Truett Christopher and a
sister, Nova Montine Harper Gephardt of Hiawassee. He is survived by sisters-
Mozelle Hedden Moore of Hiawassee, Kathleen Potts of Hiawassee and Jewel Jones
of Stone Mountain, GA and a Brother Norman ( wife- Linda) of Buford, GA as well
as 15 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 03, 2014 at 2pm from the chapel of
Banister Funeral Home, 678 N. Main St. Hiawassee, GA. Visitation will be from
12-2pm before the service.  Burial will be held after the memorial service at
the Ledford Cemetery on Jack Rabbit Road in Hayesville, NC.
His immediate family would like to thank the staff at Brass Town Manor in
Hiawassee for  the excellent care he received his last 2 1/2 years as well as
his extended family and friends that always surrounded him with love and
support.  He was truly blessed with a full life. Banister Funeral Home of
