Eugene P Brumbaugh

April 6, 1930 — October 16, 2023

Hiawassee

Eugene “Gene” P. Brumbaugh, age 93, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away at his
son’s home in Bradenton, Florida, October 16, 2023. Gene was born in Brookville,
Ohio, to the late Bertrand and Mildred Weimer Brumbaugh. He was a farmer of
crops, cattle and chickens. When Gene retired from farming in the Perry, Georgia
area, he and his late wife, Henrietta Brumbaugh, moved to Hiawassee. Together
they built a real estate business, Hiawassee Realty, and became very involved
with their new community. Gene was the president the Towns County Chamber
of Commerce and also served on the board of directors. He was member of the
Towns County Lions Club and enjoyed working the gates at the Georgia Mountain
Fairs. Gene was a member of the Northeast Georgia Board of Realtors. He was a
member of the Builders Sunday School class, and at one time he was the Sunday
School superintendent at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. Gene and
Henrietta were also 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Volunteers at the rowing
venue in Gainesville.

Gene loved to play cards and boards games. His grandchildren couldn’t wait to be
invited to sit next to their “Papa Gene” to learn the tricks and strategies of
winning the game. Gene never met a stranger. He had a six sense of finding
common ground with a new friend or someone just sitting on a bench outside a
store. Gene loved dogs. He bred and showed miniature schnauzers, and became
an AKC dog show judge. He always had a dog beside him, sneaking treats or ice
cream to them. Gene loved to walk land for his real estate business. He has had
his Georgia real estate license since 1960. In Perry, he helped farmers from Ohio,
like himself, who wanted to move south to be able to farm year-around find farm
land. In Hiawassee, he and Henrietta introduced many people to the mountains
of Northeast Georgia. When they sold the business and retired from real estate,
Gene and Henrietta traveled the USA in their RV. Gene married Mrs. Jacki Su West

in late November 1014. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his late

wife of 35 years,Henrietta Mangus Brumbaugh, his youngest son, Timothy P.

Brumbaugh and his granddaughter Kristy Brumbaugh Webb.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Brumbaugh; son, David (Margie) Brumbaugh of
Bradenton, FL; son, Chris (Sheila) Brumbaugh of Live Oak, FL; daughter, Melissa
(Chris) Sudduth of Hiawassee; his brother, Winston (Jeanie) Brumbaugh of Arcanum,

Loganville, GA; daughter, Susan Hayzlett of Warner Robins, GA; son, Lawrence
