With grateful hearts, we give thanks to God for the life of David Alexander Dosser, Sr., who passed peacefully at home on June 10, 2026. He was born on September 3, 1925, in Morristown, Tennessee, to James H. and Elizabeth Alexander Dosser.
In 1939, his family moved to Marietta, Georgia, where he made his home for many years. In 2004, he and his beloved wife, Ann, moved to Hiawassee, Georgia, to live with their daughter, Jane Cornett, and son-in-law, Danny Cornett. The family home at 412 Whitlock Avenue is now known as the Whitlock Inn Bed and Breakfast, located across from First United Methodist Church. He had one brother, Frank Alexander Dosser and a sister, Elizabeth Carrollann (Peggy) Dosser (Benson)
David proudly served his country during World War II in the 65th Infantry, 259th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters Company, 3rd Army under General Patton.
After returning home from the war, he met Elizabeth Ann Hawkins, daughter of J. Harold Hawkins, Supreme Court Justice of Georgia. They were married on March 22, 1949, and together built a beautiful life centered on love, devotion, and family. They raised three children, David Alexander Jr., Elizabeth Jane, and Sue Hawkins. Their first home was on Cascade Drive, then moved to Atwood Drive in Keeler Woods and later moved to a home on Talcott Circle also in Keeler Woods.
David worked 28 years at the First National Bank of Marietta, where he retired as Senior Vice President, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
A faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Marietta, David served on the Official Board, the Board of Trustees, and numerous committees. He sang in the Chancel choir and served with Ann as Chapel Choir sponsors. They treasured traveling with Lindell and Ann DeJarnett and the youth choir on many memorable trips.
David gave generously of his time and talents to his community. He was a charter member and treasurer of what is now the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a charter member and president of the Metro Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Symposium Organization, treasurer of the Hospital Guild, chairman of the American Institute of Banking, president of the Cobb Bankers association, president of the PTA, chairman of the Georgia Academy of Music, and a board member of several charitable organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his sister, his beloved wife, Ann Hawkins Dosser; his son, David A. Dosser, Jr.; and his grandson, Christopher Cornett. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his daughters, Elizabeth Jane Cornett (Danny) and Sue Dosser Davidson (Ed); daughter-in-law Kathy Burnette Dosser; his grandchildren, Ben Cornett (Tonya), Robert Cornett (Mallory), Kelly Homlar (Robert), Elizabeth Cloutier, Michael Davidson (Jenn), Alex Dosser, and Kate Dosser; and his great-grandchildren, Ansley Cornett, Trent Cornett, Caroline Homlar, Claire Homlar, Mary Margaret Homlar, Harper Woods, Oliver Davidson, and Charlotte Davidson and his loyal dog Miss Priss.
David will be remembered as a man of deep faith, devoted family love, and enduring patriotism.
