Darold Ledford

Darold Ledford, age 75 of Scataway community in Hiawassee, Georgia met Jesus face-to-face on Friday, July 1, 2022. He was born on November 27, 1946 in Hayesville, North Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. Cloe and Ola (Burrell) Ledford. He was a member of Lower Hightower Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years. He went above and beyond for his church family. Darold never met a stranger or missed an opportunity to tell others about Jesus. He would talk to anyone and always made people feel welcome into his family’s home and life. Family was important to him. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, doting papaw, and loyal friend. He enjoyed his work as a heavy-equipment diesel mechanic. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. He especially loved deer hunting with his grandson, Jakob Sims. Above all else, he was a soldier for the Lord. 

 

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Pauline (Polly) Matheson Ledford; daughter, Dara Sims; grandson, Jakob Sims; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vonita and Roy Matheson, Oleta and Bill Canup; sisters- in-law Bell Ledford and Geraldine Ledford; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by brothers; Herman, Harold, and Rickie Ledford; and sister; Barbara Spivey. 

 

Services

Visitation: Sunday, July 3, 2022, 1:00-4:00PM at Lower Hightower Baptist Church. 

Funeral: July 3, 2022, 4:00PM at Lower Hightower Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Merck, Rev. Jason Cantrell, and Rev. Wayne Matheson officiating. 

Graveside: Laurel Hills Cemetery with Rev. Chris Matheson officiating.

Pallbearers: Blake Ledford, Justin Ledford, Junior Spivey, Roger Spivey, Brian Matheson, and Tanner Loudermilk. 

Honorary Pallbearers: Leon Berrong, Jakob Sims, Billy Anderson, Ron Wood, Terry Tyler, Herbert McCray, Dwayne Ledford, Ray Jones, Ron Ellis, and Judd Thompson.
