Christine Shook Allen entered into eternal rest while surrounded by her children on September 6th, 2025. She was born in Hiawassee, Georgia, on July 31st, 1936, surprising her parents as the second of a set of twin girls. After graduating from Towns County High School, she moved to Gainesville, Georgia, where she met the love of her life, George "Red" Wesley Allen, Jr. After making seven trips across the mountain, Red and Chris were married in 1958. It was in Gainesville where they raised their three children, Scott, Jackie, and Anita. Part of Red's promise to her included a return to Hiawassee when retirement years came upon them, and he made good on that promise with a move back to Hiawassee in 1996.
Chris was the Proverbs 31 woman we all hope to be -- supportive and loving wife, exemplary mother, passionate Christ follower, prayer warrior, youth Sunday School teacher, choir member at Hopewell Baptist Church and Union Hill Methodist Church, caring Hog Creek valley resident, and Granny to seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She and her twin sister, Irene Land, enjoyed long walks on the road they were raised on, reminiscing on their early years while navigating the Great Depression. She is preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Zuria Shook, and her brothers James Shook, Garland "June" Shook, and Fred "Dee" Shook. Chris is survived by her three children, her twin sister, Irene Land, and many beloved nieces and nephews. During the last 10 months of her life, she lived comfortably in the wonderful Brasstown Manor Community, where she developed many special friendships with caregivers and residents alike. A citizen of Heaven now, she will be missed by so many who knew her and her loving, gentle, kind and generous spirit.
