Barbara Frances Shook

Mrs. Barbara Frances Shook, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Shook was born on September 10, 1936 in Young Harris, Georgia to the late Dayton and Ora (Brown) Stephens. Barbara was a member of Many Forks Baptist Church, she also served as an officer for the Democrat Party and the Board of Elections for 20 plus years. She was recently well known for giving children $2.00 bills and she worked at Towns County Comprehensive Schools for 29 years, most recently in the “opportunity room”. She enjoyed reading, attending great grandkids sporting events and had a love for wearing hats.  She was preceded in death by, brothers and sisters-in-law, Thed and Ann Stephens, John Stephens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Charles Powell, Betty McComb, and Ruby and Ed Lemmings. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Grover Shook of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter, Angie Hunt of Young Harris, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy H. and Glenda Stephens of Young Harris, Georgia; brother-in-law, Paul McComb; sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey and Bob Wade of Florence, Massachusetts, Linda and Bill Holder of Rome, Georgia, and Charlotte and Charlie Hyde of Covington, Georgia; grandson Benjamin T. Hunt and wife Bonnie of Gainesville, Georgia; great grandchildren, Carson and Lila Hunt; nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. 

Visitation: Friday, December 22, 2017 from 11:00 AM - 2:30PM at Banister Funeral Home

Service: Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Guy Wayne Shook and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. 

Interment: Following the service at Many Forks Baptist Church 

Pallbearers: Delin Brown, David Brown, Cecil Shook, Brad Stephens, Tyler Keyes, and Noah Clemmons

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
