Annie Clee Johnson

Annie Berrong Nichols Johnson, age 88 of Hiawassee GA, passed away January 16, 2016 from complications with pneumonia.
Annie was born in Towns County- the sixth child of Andrew Jackson Berrong and Maude Eller Berrong. She grew up in the Upper Hightower Community and graduated from Towns County High School in 1945.
In 1947, Annie married her high school sweetheart, Doyle Nichols, who would later become the representative to Towns County in the State Legislature. They had two daughters, Andrea Nichols Foster and Myra Nichols Green.
Annie began her working career upon graduation from high school at the County Ordinary's Office. After Doyle was elected to the legislature they moved to Atlanta and Annie began working at the IRS in the Audit Division. Several years after Doyle's death, Annie moved back to Hiawassee and worked for Doctor Acree and Nicholson. In 1966 Annie married Willis Johnson and moved to Gainesville where she began working for ATF. Several years after Willis death, Annie moved to Dallas Texas and worked for Texas Instruments.
At the age of 64, Annie had moved back to Hiawassee and began her last job as a Media Specialists for the Towns County School System. During her 18 years with the school system she was responsible for computerizing the library books.
Annie was an active member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church for over 40 years and the Ester Class at McConnell. She also served 12 years as a member of the Hiawassee City Council.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Maude Berrong; brothers, Willard, Wintford and Oscar Berrong; sisters Verna Berrong Wood and Hazel Berrong McKay; husbands Doyle Nichols and Willis Johnson.
Survived by daughters; Audrea and Tom Foster, Myra and David Green; grandchildren Lisa and Kirk Morrow, Tom and Tracie Foster, Scott and Michelle Green, Brittany and Chris Strickland; great-grandchildren, Payton and Grayson Morrow, Jacob and Amelia Foster and sister-in-law Louise Berrong. Plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Rodney McKay, Dale Berrong, Dewitt Berrong, Dwight Berrong, Stacy Berrong and Joe Wood.
Visitation was held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 6:00-8:00PM at Banister Funeral Home. Funeral service were held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 11:00AM at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Berrong and Rev. Steven Taylor officiating. Special music by granddaughter Lisa Foster-Morrow. Interment upper Hightower Church Cemetery.
