Allan Horace Wood

December 1, 1939 — July 25, 2023

Allan Horace Wood passed away on July 25, 2023. He was born to Horace Wood and Helen

Gardner Wood on December 1, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts. He served as an Airman in the

United States Airforce from 1957 to 1959, followed by several years in the United States

Airforce Reserve.

Allan spent most of his life taking care of others as a Registered Nurse at many locations across

America. He moved to Hayesville, North Carolina in 1987, where he built his home on the

Hiawassee River. During his 30+ years in retirement, he made many great friends in the

Riverbend community. He will be remembered as strong-willed, but very friendly with a tender

heart. He will be deeply missed.

Allan is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Helen, and his four siblings; Elinor Black,

David Wood, Beverly MacKay, and Richard Wood, as well as a niece, Judy Hand. He is survived

by his longtime friend Katherine Pierce and his nephews and nieces, Donna Black, Nancy

MacKay, Julie Boyer, Charlie Gampero, Camille Gardiner, Lisa Priola, Michael Black, Beverly

Black, Stephen Black, and Dean Wood.

Banister-Cooper is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Wood. A private service is likely to be planned in the future.
