Alfred "Al" Wynn Jones lll

Alfred W. Jones III, age 60, passed peacefully at home on April 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Ellenville, New York, Alfred graduated from Rondout Valley High School and went on to own and operate Bear Meadows Grill in Hiawassee for 12 years. He proudly served as an Army medic for three years.

Alfred was a beloved husband to his wife, Christine, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. He is survived by his brother Michel and his wife Jen; his brother Lawrence and his wife Nancy; his sister Janene Banta; his sister Helene Decker; his sister-in-law Jeannie Rojas and her husband Joe; as well as three generations of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Sr.; his mother, Marion; his brother, Alfred Jr.; and his brother Mark.

Alfred was a passionate sports fan who especially loved the Yankees and the Giants. He had an incredible memory for statistics that never ceased to amaze those around him. He often said, "If you can read, you can cook," and he truly lived by those words-able to prepare just about anything with ease.

In lieu of a formal service, and in accordance with his wishes, donations may be made in his name to Pruitt Hospice.
